Eastern Region Base Hospital Programs
The Ottawa Base Hospital Program in Ottawa, and the the Regional Base Hospital for Southeastern Ontario, located at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston were both established in the late 1980's to provide medical control, quality assurance and continuing medical education to paramedics. The program medical directors certify paramedics to perform controlled acts as defined by Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons. Both current programs are also responsible for the development, co-ordination and promotion of quality pre-hospital and inter-hospital patient care within a specified geographical area. The catchment area of the Kingston program is relatively well aligned with the South Eastern LIHN, and the Ottawa Base Hospital is reasonably well aligned with the Champlian LHIN. The two sites combined provide medical oversight for approximately 1200 paramedics employed by nine individual EMS services, transporting more than 100,000 patients a year
within both LHIN's.
In late 2008, both sites will formally merge, to become a single regional program to be called the Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO). The exisiting web sites for both organizations are available below:
